ROLE OF GOVERNMENT
"That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.” Our Declaration of Independence states that the reason government exists is to protect the rights of its citizens. Here in America, our government is OF the people, BY the people, and FOR the people. Romans 13 illustrates this vividly in verse three in that “rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good , and thou shalt have praise of the same.” Clearly, our founders had a Biblical view of government when they wrote our Declaration of Independence.
In other words, government has a duty to punish evil and reward good. Government must make it painful to do wrong, and easy to do right. One of the two hallmarks of a just government is an orderly society, the other is justice. Order and justice are two sides of the same coin, one without the other is destined to fail.
Order without justice is tyranny, justice without order rapidly descends into anarchy. America is “one Nation under God, with Liberty and Justice for all.” As long as we adhere to that we can remain a “shining city on a hill.” When we stop, we will be on a short ride to the ash heap of history.
